Andy Dog Johnson

Andy Johnson is an artist best known for designing the record sleeves of The The in the 1980s and 1990s which were produced under the pseudonym Andy Dog. His work has a very distinctive style and often features tortured, grimacing figures coupled with dark, melancholic themes. His main agency is drawing and he is consciously attempting to forge a new connection with the English Neo-Romantic movement of the early-mid 20th Century.
He trained at Camberwell School of Art where he was taught by Charles Keeping and Sir Peter Woodcock. He has contributed to many underground comics and magazines, also working for the music press. He was responsible for establishing the visual identity of the Some Bizzare record label.
As a child, he worked early with Joan Littlewood's Theatre Workshop at the Theatre Royal in Stratford, London. He also appeared in the cult film Bronco Bullfrog. In the late '70s, he fronted post-punk outfit Camera 3 and played alongside Crass.
Currently, Andrew lives and works as an artist in the East Anglia region of England.
He currently lives in Lavenham, Suffolk.
